MRS. THOMAS SWALES
Came to Portage 36 Years Ago
-Funeral Was Held This
Afternoon
The death took place yesterday
at the family residence on Tupper
Street North, of an old time, and
most respected resident of the city
in the person of Eliza Little, wid-
ow of the late Thomas Swales, 77
years of age, after an illness extend-
ing over two years.
Mrs. Swales was born in Camo-
hie, Roxburgshire, Scotland, in
1839 and came to Canada in 1858
settling in Markham, Ontario. In
1880 the family came to Manitoba
and took up a farm north of this
city. Her husband predeceased
her some years ago. Mrs. Swales
was a life long member of the
Methodist church and a most lov-
able woman, leaving a wide circle
of friends to mourn for her.
The deceased is survived by a
son and two daughters, John L.
Swales, Mrs. I. R. Snider and Miss
Susie Swales.
The funeral took place this after-
noon, internment being in Hillside
cemetery.
