Organizational history of Compagnie française de colonisation au Canada

Compagnie française de colonisation La Compagnie française de colonisation au Canada was established about 1909. Its directors were all European immigrants who had settled in Western Canada several years prior and who were in communication with farmers in Manitoba. Their goal was to offer advice and direct new settlers towards a successful farming venture. The company was involved in land transactions, buying choice farmland in various districts of the province, and reserving it for European families, and offering mortgages for farms and buildings. The company’s primary tool for recruiting immigrants from France, Switzerland and Belgium was a monthly magazine entitled Le Canadien francais published in Winnipeg in 1909 and 1910, which featured articles on Manitoba’s resources and biographies of immigrants who had become successful farmers, businessmen and professionals.
