The Morier family, including brothers Olier, Horace and Oscar, left their native St. Bruno, Quebec in 1890 to settle in Manitoba. The brothers purchased land along the Red River in St. Vital and about 1899 established an enterprising market garden, which they supplanted by farming and bee-keeping. They eventually became major property owners in the St. Vital area. The market garden remained in the hands of the Morier family for over 50 years.
